The Drago Plateau is the key cinematic shot of our Mother 3: Tribute. This scene doesn't have the most props, or characters, but instead came with it's own unique challenges. We always knew we wanted to end on the Drago roar, but how we got there and what the scene looked like took some time to figure out. In the original game the scene takes place in mid-day. We decided to change this to be more dramatic; a booming sand storm with lightening beating down. This allowed us not just atmosphere, but the ability to hide an otherwise unfinished environment. We did blockout a good chunk of the terrain, but anything unseen wasn't made. That's why you'll see so many items missing in these behind-the-scenes shots.
We did develop unique cliffs, a procedural ground material, and hand sculpted stones for the Drago Plateau. Along with a tree enemy and a reanimation device that is slightly modified from the Reconstructed Caribou scene atop Oriander Cliffs. This time receiving scratch marks from the Drago itself. Not to mention the dagger we had to design for Flint to hold against the beast. Eventually all the pieces came together and we had something unique from the rest of the trailer. We ended on a bang.
